Words to remember I
“I stand out because my values and way of life reflect those of the society to which I am honoured to belong.” (Jose Mujica. Dubbed ‘the world’s poorest president,’ he recently retired after a five year run as the president of Uruguay.)
This is what a real president does, and this is representative of a real democracy. Today, leaders of various countries do not represent and reflect the values of their society, but rather serve the corporations and big financial institutions that pay them. The corporate control over government policy and various government initiatives is nearly absolute at this point and it is truly terrifying.
“It’s not a lack of resources. It’s a lack of governance. Governments are preoccupied with winning the next election, with who’s going to be boss. We fight for power… and we forget people and world issues. The crisis is not environmental. It’s political.”
